If you have a good source for bulk, organic, whole foods, please share your source (website or store) as a reply to this thread, titled with the name of the product.
The purpose of this post is to share where we've all found good deals, since personally, I've spend at least 40 hours online shopping for good deals, so we might as well all maximize our time and share what we've found!
Health food stores like Kadejan and Whole Foods are great, but the servings are small (I go through a 8 ounce jar of ghee when I make one cake!) Costco is also an excellent source for organic foods, but their selections are limited. Since most of us live in a rural area with few health food stores, the best prices are often found online, in bulk.
Here are my favorite finds:
1. "Misfits Market," a mail-order organic food delivery susbcription. You can customize your box of produce every week if you like, but I prefer to let the website send me a variety of fruits and veggies every week, so I'm forced to try new things and add diversity in my diet. You can also order meat, eggs, and dry goods. Google "Misfits Market."
2. "Haffner Family Farm," a local family who sells small farm raised meat in bulk or by the cut. Prices are higher than conventional meat, but cheaper than Whole Foods. Meat is not organic, but non-GMO. Google "Haffner Family Farm" to get to their website.
3. Organic Tea: order in bulk from Amazon.com driect from the organic supplier. Best deals come as 4 or more boxes of tea at a time.
4. Grains, gluten free flours: order in bulk from "Bob's Red Mill" website.
5. Beauty/Hygiene/Cleaning Products: After checking "Environmental Working Group" (EWG's website) for "EWG Verified" products, copy and paste the name of the product into a Google Shopping search, and you can browse the best deals. Typically, I can find the best prices on Amazon.com.
6. Eggs: I prefer to buy local, free range eggs from happy chickens instead of organic commercial eggs, since the yolks from truley free-range chicken are bright orange, and much better for the environment than commercial organic eggs. To find local sources, go onto "Facebook Marketplace" and type in "local eggs." I've found multiple small farmers who DELIVER EGGS TO MY DOOR for $2.50 a dozen...that is an AMAZING DEAL! There is a guy on the highway from Glenwood to Sauk Center (just a mile past A&W) who lets you just drop in and pay cash for eggs. (There is a big "EGGS" sign in front of his house.) In the summer, he lets my kids play wth his dogs and tour his chicken barn. The chickens range the whole farm, eat bugs, and take dust baths, and the egg yolks are bright orange and healthy. There is another egg seller one block north of the Catholic church in Glenwood who also lets you drop in and buy eggs from a refridgerator on his front porch. These guys are cash-only sellers.
